Aaron McDonald tied for the top spot in the conference as the Park Rapids Clay Dusters finished second in Class 1A Conference 8 standings of the Minnesota State High School League Clay Target Fall League.
McDonald finished with a 23.30 average out of 25.00 to tie Sartell’s Corey Mehrwerth for the highest average in the conference. Kaiden Walsh tied Perham’s Aaron Clark for third place with a 22.70 average while Brendan Landstrom tied Holy Family Catholic’s Aidan Greene and Howard Lake-Waverly/Winsted’s Joshua Marketon for eighth place with a 21.80 average.
Park Rapids’ McKenzie Girtz finished in the No. 3 spot among girls with a 22.30 average. Math and Science Academy’s Lily Swanson was first with a 22.80 average and Sartell’s Amber Pietrowski was second with a 22.50 average.
Sartell compiled 1,705.50 points in Week 5 to top the seven-team conference standings with 7,549.50 points. Park Rapids, which finished with 1,372 points in Week 5, followed with 7,109 points while Howard Lake-Waverly/Winsted was a distant third with 5,782.50 points after tallying 938.50 points in Week 5. Rounding out the conference standings were Century High with 807 points in Week 5 and 5,337 total points, Holy Family Catholic with 914.50 points in Week 5 and 4,877 total points, Math and Science Academy with 1,108 points in Week 5 and 4,846.50 total points, and Perham with 780.50 points in Week 5 and 3,877.50 total points. The Clay Dusters led the conference with 1,512 points in Week 1 and 1,526 points in Week 2 before finishing second behind Sartell with 1,254.50 points in Week 3 and 1,444.50 points in Week 4.
Menahga ended up placing ninth in the Class 1A Conference 4 standings with 1,523.50 points after compiling 287 points in Week 5. Jadon Maaninga hit 25 straight targets in the final week to move up to 10th place with a 22.40 average. Medford’s Dakoda DuChene led the conference with a 23.20 average.
Albert Lea claimed the conference title with 903 points in Week 5 for a total of 3,965.50. Following were Spring Grove (3,762.50), Medford (3,435), Red Wing (3,315), Groves Academy (2,625.50), John Marshall (2,163.50), North Lakes Academy (2,030) and Mesabi East (1,929.50). Menahga had scores of 342 in Week 1, 274.50 in Week 2, 367 in Week 3 and 253 in Week 4.
Marshall’s KayLynn Sieber led all competitors in the fall league with a 24.60 average. Tying for the top spot among the boys were South Ridge’s Donn Billman, Mabel-Canton’s Colton Heintz-Kuderer, Alexandria’s Erik Knight and Alden-Conger’s Cole Rickert with 24.40 averages.
A total of 122 teams in 16 conferences competed during the five-week fall league season.
