After opening the Section 5A tournament with a sweep over Verndale, the Nevis volleyball team saw its season end with a loss to Walker-Hackensack-Akeley.
The Tigers served 16 aces and pounded down 28 kills in a 3-0 win over Verndale at Nevis on Thursday, Oct. 24 before 27 hitting errors and nine service errors proved costly in a 3-1 loss to W-H-A at Walker on Friday, Oct. 25.
Nevis, the No. 3 seed in the North B bracket, opened tournament play with a 27-25, 25-16, 25-14 victory over Verndale. Kia Heide (12) and Makenna Frazier (11) combined for 23 kills with Cora Umthun setting up 21 of those kills. Carol Keezer served five aces, Umthun served four aces and Jayden Vredenburg served three aces. Frazier and Heide had six digs aiece for the Tigers, who defeated Verndale 25-15, 21-25, 25-23, 25-20 on Sept. 17.
Tess Jones had six kills and five ace serves as the No. 6-seeded Pirates closed the season with an 8-20 record.
Megan Benjamin’s 26 kills and 13 digs apiece by Brianna Raddatz and Allyson Sea led W-H-A to a 25-16, 22-25, 25-16, 25-19 win over the Tigers.
Frazier’s 16 kills led the Tigers. Heide and Addison Lindow had five kills each while Umthun set up 26 of Nevis’ 32 kills and served two aces. Sadie Thurner had 18 digs while Lindow and Keezer had 10 digs apiece as Nevis ended the season with a 12-16 record.
The No. 2-seeded Wolves (who defeated Nevis 25-20, 25-13, 25-17 on Sept. 26) advanced with a 22-6 record.
