Ellie Ulvin and Aleah Voigt captured individual titles as the Park Rapids girls swimming team claimed runner-up honors at the Mid-State Conference meet at Detroit Lakes on Friday, Oct. 25.

Ulvin won the 100-yard freestyle in 56.36 and Voigt led the field in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:05.33 to earn all-conference honors. Detroit Lakes used nine winning times to compile 534.50 points and repeat as conference champs while the Panthers followed with 418.50 points. Perham/New York Mills was third with 237 points and Staples-Motley finished fourth with 91 points. Detroit Lakes won the conference title for the sixth straight year.

The Panthers finished second in all three relays as Voigt, Massie Lee, Analise Smee and Savana Damar clocked a runner-up 2:02.74 in the 200 medley relay; Emma Vrieze, Lizzie Seifert, Chloe Voigt and Ulvin clocked a runner-up 1:48.16 in the 200 freestyle relay; and Ulvin, Vrieze, Damar and Aleah Voigt went 3:53.50 for a runner-up finish in the 400 freestyle relay.

Also earning all-conference honorable mention honors by placing second for Park Rapids were Aleah Voigt in the 200 individual medley (2:23.62), Ulvin in the 50 freestyle (25.60) and Chloe Voigt in the 500 freestyle (5:53.00).

Vrieze finished third in both the 50 freestyle (26.02) and 100 freestyle (57.63) to earn all-conference honorable mention honors while Lee tied for third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.31.

Turning in the Panthers’ top times in the other events were Chloe Voigt in the 200 freestyle (fourth in 2:12.68) and Smee in the 100 butterfly (fourth in 1:07.03).

The Panthers will taper in preparation for the Section 8A meet at Grand Rapids on Nov. 8-9.

“We swam well. I was happy with our performance,” said Park Rapids head coach Todd Fritze. “It was a good tune up to race one more time before we start resting.”
