Rilee Michaelson and Kamree Carlson combined for 34 kills as the Park Rapids volleyball team defeated Detroit Lakes 3-1 on Thursday, Oct. 10 to capture the Mid-State Conference title with an undefeated record for the fourth year in a row.
Michaelson’s 19 kills and Carlson’s 15 kills led the Panthers to a 19-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-17 victory at Detroit Lakes.
Katelyn Weaver tallieed 36 set assists as Park Rapids offset 22 hitting errors with 42 kills. The Panthers served 11 aces with only four service errors with Carlson serving five aces and 12 points.
Michaelson led the way with 19 digs while Kora Just (16), Carlson (14), Weaver (13) and Katie Burlingame (13) also had double figures in digs.
The Panthers, who went 4-0 in conference play in 2016 and 2017 and finished with a 5-0 record last season, ended the Mid-State schedule with a 5-0 record while improving to 18-4 overall.
The Lakers fell to 3-2 in conference matches and 11-11 overall. Pequot Lakes finished second in the conference standings at 4-1 with Staples-Motley (2-3), Aitkin (1-4) and Crosby-Ironton (0-5) following.
