Luke DeWulf scored four touchdowns and Ethan Klimek had a pair of touchdown receptions as Nevis posted a key Section 6 9-man football victory over Moorhead Park Christian on Friday, Oct. 4.
DeWulf rushed 22 times for 237 yards and three TDs and returned a punt for a touchdown as the Tigers capped off homecoming week with a 41-25 victory.
DeWulf’s 13-yard TD run with 6:29 to play in the first quarter gave Nevis a 6-0 lead before DeWulf’s 75-yard punt return and extra-point kick at the 11:00 mark of the second quarter and Klimek’s 23-yard TD reception from Derek Lindow and DeWulf’s kick at the 7:50 mark made it 20-0. The Falcons scored on a TD run with :12 remaining to cut the gap to 20-7 at the half.
The Tigers extended their lead to 34-13 after the third quarter on an 18-yard pass from Lindow to Klimek at the 10:25 mark and DeWulf’s 9-yard TD run and conversion run at the 3:51 mark. Park Christian had a TD run in between those two scores.
DeWulf’s 1-yard TD run and kick gave the Tigerrs a 41-13 advantage with 5:17 to play. Park Christian concluded the scoring on a TD reception by Ethan Jorgenson at the 2:12 mark and a fumble return by Josh Lien with :23 showing.
Lindow completed 3 of 5 passes for 84 yards with Klimek’s two TD catches and Logan Funk’s 43-yard reception helping the Tigers compile 368 yards in total offense. The win lifted Nevis to 4-2 on the season.
Defensively, DeWulf and Ian Ahrendt were in on 11 tackles each, Cain Mitchell made 10 tackles, Darin Keezer was in on seven tackles, and Funk, Cooper Henry and Brody Johnson had six tackles each. Tyler Lindow recovered a fumble for Nevis’ only turnover.
Jorgenson rushed for 90 yards and scored twice while quarterback Payton Spaeth threw for 82 yards and a TD as the Falcons fell to 3-3 on the season.
Nevis hosts Blackduck in another key section game this Friday night (Oct. 11). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Blackduck improved to 5-1 on the season with a 58-6 win over Northern Freeze.
In the other Week 6 Section 6 9-man games, Win-E-Mac defeated Warren-Alvarado-Oslo 28-6 to improve to 6-0, Fertile-Beltrami defeated Stephen-Argyle 28-14 to improve to 5-1 and Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal edged Badger-Greenbush-Middle River 7-6 to improve to 3-3. Laporte fell to 0-6 with a 48-0 loss to Kittson County Central and Clearbrook-Gonvick fell to 0-6 with a 26-8 loss to Goodridge-Grygla.
