Brooks Grossinger of Mayer kept his streak alive by repeating as the men’s champion at the 17th annual Northwoods Triathlon at Nevis on Saturday, Aug. 10.

Grossinger clocked a winning time of 1 hour, 00 minutes, :05 seconds to top the 145-competitor men’s field and capture the title for the 13th consecutive season and the 15th time overall. The 42-year-old Grossinger, who didn’t compete in this event in 2005 and 2006 and set the course record with a 57:06 in 2014, remained undefeated at the Northwoods Triathlon by completing the ¼-mile swim in Lake Belle Taine in 6:57, clocking a 32:58 on the 14-mile bike ride and finishing the 5K race on Heartland Trail in 18:00 plus transition time. Grossinger won this race in 57:35 last year. Nevis’ David Lewis (age 45), who took third last year in 59:57, was the runner-up in 1:02:06 with a 7:42 swim, a 34:11 bike ride and an 18:06 5K. Bemidji’s Ryan Rogers (age 39) was third in 1:07:42 with times of 7:50 (swim), 38:04 (bike) and 19:34 (5K).

St. Paul’s Olivia Berg led the 94-competitor women’s field in 1:11:16 with a swim time of 9:14, a bike time of 37:20 and a 5K time of 22:13. The 33-year-old Berg was the runner-up last year in 1:11:21. Bemidji’s Jessie Maher (age 35) was second in 1:11:29 with times of 7:30 swimming, 39:58 biking and 21:43 running while Christine Mitchell of Maple Grove (age 50) finished third in 1:13:39 with a swim of 7:51, a bike ride of 42:11 and a 5K time of 21:28.

Winning age division titles were Andover’s Calvin Fiala (male 19-under) in 1:17:52, Savage’s Isabel Ondracek (female 19-under) in 1:27:55, Park Rapids’ Matthew Benson (male 20-24) in 1:13:02, Richfield’s Leah Boldt (female 20-24) in 1:30:28, Minneapolis’ Benjamin Kollaja (male 25-29) in 1:09:12. Nisswa’s Mata Agre (female 25-29) in 1:15:35, Apple Valley’s Benjamin Petsch (male 30-34) in 1:08:36, Berg (female 30-34), Rogers (male 35-39), Maher (female 35-39), Grossinger (male 40-44), Independence’s Nerissa Marzolf (female 40-44) in 1:16:32, Lewis (male 45-49), Buffalo’s Janet Winter (female 45-49) in 1:24:38, Maple Grove’s John Mitchell (male 50-54) in 1:18:26, Mitchell (female 50-54), Chanhassen’s Rob Kaufman (male 55-59) in 1:10:29, Greenley’s Lynne Parks (female 55-59) in 1:15:47, Duluth’s Tom Tedlund (male 60-64) in 1:21:01, Duluth’s Robin Tedlund (female 60-64) in 1:15:55, Walker’s Gary Walworth (male 65-69) in 1:31:46, Fargo’s Mari Bell (female 65-69) in 1:45:18 and Minnetonka’s Danny Kagol (male 70-over) in 1:33:15.

Grossinger had the fastest bike and 5K times while Benson had the fastest swim time at 6:13.

Taking first in the nine-team Male Relay in 1:12:47 was the Falls Plows team of Jack Schulte, Brent Schulte and Mitch Schulte. Topping the eight-team Female Relay field was the Blonde Ambition Trio team of Kathy Stenberg, Leah Walters and Lynn Just in 1:14:21. There were 26 teams competing in the Coed Relay with the Bell/Devine duo of Julie Bell and Kurt Devine taking first in 1:09:08.

In addition to Lewis, 10 other Nevis athletes competed in the triathlon. Eric Rypkema (age 41) finished 16th overall in 1:12:28, Richard Johnson (age 49) placed 53rd in 1:19:12, Nicholas Richter (age 34) was 60th in 1:20:43, Ethan Lewis (age 15) finished No. 101 in 1:27:38, Kimberlee Johnson (age 46) was No. 112 in 1:28:47, Noelle Johnson (age 44) finished No. 186 in 1:39:51, Jason Haas (age 19) placed No. 205 in 1:45:01, Ken Osterberg (age 61) was No. 215 in 1:47:31, Robert Sauser (age 57) finished 218th in 1:50:03 and Edward Bolton (the oldest competitor at 81) was No. 237 in 2:12:15.

Joining the 20-year-old Benson in the top 100 from Park Rapids were Justin Domogalla (age 38) in 22nd place in 1:14:04 and Nick Jasmer (age 27) in 56th place in 1:20:07. Angie Walther (age 51) was 118th in 1:30:12, David Goeddertz (age 50) finished 123rd in 1:30:39, Bruce Bolton (age 57) finished 183rd in 1:39:44, Mark Hewitt (age 66) was 190th in 1:40:34 and Troy Christenson (age 49) took 197th in 1:42:16. The other Park Rapids athletes were Ray Niedzielski (age 69) No. 202 in 1:44:16, Emily Munson (age 34) No. 211 in 1:45:59, Jeff Mosner (age 65) No. 220 in 1:50:12, Nakita Boyd (age 31) No. 221 in 1:50:18, Maeve Bolton (age 15) No. 232 in 2:05:09, Kassie Boyd (age 25) No. 235 in 2:08:35 and Katrina Boyd (age 29) No. 236 in 2:10:33.

Laporte’s Melissa Meyer (age 39) finished No. 102 in 1:27:40 while Alicia Reardon (age 28) was No 168 in 1:36:36.
