Three unanswered goals to end the game rallied the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team to a 4-3 Section 8A victory at Red Lake Falls on Feb. 5.

After Jack Slagle gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead with a goal at the 10:52 mark of the first period, Red Lake Falls took a 3-1 lead by scoring three goals within a span of 1:33 early in the second period. Zak Kennett's shorthanded goal at the 2:40 mark, Justus Klipping's goal at the 3:30 mark and Fred Landman's goal at the 4:13 mark put the Eagles in front. Brett Pinoniemi assisted on a goal by Caden Opheim at the 12:31 mark as Park Rapids cut the lead to 3-2 entering the final period.

Cody Sagen's power-play goal with 5:42 to play tied the game before Slagle scored the game-winner on an assist from Logan Arndt with 4:44 remaining.

Goalie Brendan Kruchowski made 25 saves as the Panthers improved to 4-9 in section games and 6-16 overall. Park Rapids, which edged Red Lake Falls 5-4 in overtime on Jan. 12, went 1 for 4 on the power play.

The Eagles, who were outshot 34-28 in the game and failed to score on five power-play opportunities, fell to 2-6 in section games and 5-8 overall.

East Grand Forks (16-6), Detroit Lakes (14-5-2), Thief River Falls (13-6-3), Kittson Central (13-6), Warroad (12-9-2), Lake of the Woods (9-13), Bagley/Fosston (7-12) and Crookston (6-14-1) top the section standings.

North Stars win

A dominant second period carried Prairie Centre to a 6-2 Mid-State Conference win over the Panthers at the Todd County Expo Arena on Feb. 4.

The North Stars outshot Park Rapids 21-7 in that period and scored three times to break open a tie game to sweep the season series. Prairie Centre defeated the Panthers 5-1 on Dec. 4.

Eli Fletcher's power-play goal and Hunter Fletcher's goal gave Prairie Centre a 2-0 lead just 4:29 into the game before the Panthers used goals by Slagle and Sagen to tie the game after the first period. Thomas Melvin and Carter Opheim received assists on those two goals.

The North Stars controlled the second period as Hunter Fletcher completed his hat trick with a pair of goals and Preston Sorenson scored for a 5-2 lead.

Cole Crosby's power-play goal midway through the third period sealed the win in this penalty-filled contest as Prairie Centre improved to 6-1-1 in the conference and 14-7-1 overall. The North Stars defeated Park Rapids 5-1 on Dec. 4.

Kruchowski finished with 30 saves as the Panthers fell to 1-6 in the conference. Detroit Lakes (5-0-1) tops the conference standings while Northern Lakes sits at 3-3-1 and Wadena-Deer Creek is 1-6-1.

Each team had 10 penalties with Park Rapids going 0 for 5 on the power play and Prairie Centre scoring twice on six power-play chances.
