A strong night at the service line Thursday night kept the Park Rapids volleyball team's undefeated record in Mid-State Conference matches intact.

Rilee Michaelson and Katelyn Weaver combined for nine ace serves and 21 service points in leading the Panthers to a 3-0 win over Aitkin at the Area High School gym. Michaelson served two aces during a 5-0 run in Set 1 while Weaver followed with three ace serves during a 5-0 run in Set 2 to spark the Panthers' 25-14, 25-19, 25-15 victory.

The win lifted Park Rapids to 3-0 in conference matches and 6-1 overall while Aitkin fell to 0-3 in Mid-State play.

Kills by Michaelson and Kaisa Coborn gave the Panthers a 4-1 lead in Set 1 before Michaelson served two aces to push the lead to 11-3. Kayleah Breitweser had a kill during that run. An ace serve by Coborn and kills by Kamree Carlson and Breitweser made it 16-6 before a kill by Kendra Scholz and three kills by Coborn closed out the opening set.

Two kills by Scholz and kills by Coborn, Michaelson and Breitweser helped the Panthers to an 8-8 tie in Set 2 before an ace serve by Weaver and a kill by Michaelson made it 10-8. The Gobblers responded to take a 12-10 lead before two kills by Michaelson and kills by Coborn and Carlson gave Park Rapids a 19-17 advantage. Weaver then served there aces and Carlson had a kill to give the Panthers a 24-17 cushion. A kill by Michaelson closed out that set.

Kills by Carlson, Michaelson, Coborn and Breitweser gave Park Rapids a quick 11-6 advantage in Set 3 before a kill by Carlson and two kills apiece by Coborn and Michaelson made it 19-12. Ace serves by Michaelson and Coborn, kills by Coborn and Breitweser, and a tip by Weaver ended the match.

Coborn and Michaelson had 11 kills apiece with Breitweser and Carlson adding seven kills each as the Panthers overcame 13 hitting errors with 40 kills. Michaelson's five ace serves and Weaver's four aces serves led the Panthers, who put 61 of 72 serves in play. Weaver had 36 set assists.

Defensively, Scholz and Michaelson had one solo block each and assisted on three blocks while Coborn (12), Carlson (10) and Kora Just (8) combined for 30 digs.

Kaija Davies' five kills and four blocks and Lydia Fellerman's five kills led the Gobblers, who fell to 3-8 on the season.

Panthers sweep Pirates

Carlson, Michaelson and Coborn had double digits in kills in leading the Panthers to a 3-0 win at Crookston on Sept. 19.

Park Rapids used a 6-1 run to close out Set 1, a 9-3 run to close out Set 2 and a 13-4 run to close out Set 3 in the 25-18, 25-19, 25-14 victory in this match of Section 8AA teams.

Carlson and Michaelson had 11 kills each while Coborn added 10 kills as the Panthers pounded down 40 kills with only nine hitting errors. The Panthers put 68 of 73 serves in play with 12 aces with Michaelson's three aces leading the way. Weaver had 31 set assists while Carlson led the team with 15 digs. Just (9), Michaelson (9) and Weaver (8) combined for 26 digs as the Panthers improved to 4-0 against section opponents.

Rachel Hefta's 10 kills, seven digs and two blocks and Hailey Seaver's five kills led the Pirates, who fell to 1-3 in section matches and 2-7 overall.
