Win-E-Mac's defense limited Nevis to only 32 yards rushing to spark the Patriots to a 48-6 win in a Section 6 9-man and District 9 West (North) football victory Friday night at Erskine.
The Patriots took a 6-0 lead with 1:00 to play in the first quarter on Gavin Walker's 11-yard touchdown run.
Three touchdowns and conversions in the second quarter pushed the lead to 30-0 at the half. Mason Spry scored on a 44-yard TD run at the 6:12 mark, Walker hit Koby Hamre on a 35-yard scoring route at the 5:45 mark and Nathan Fortmann scored on a 13-yard pass from Walker with 1:53 to play before the intermission.
After Win-E-Mac made it 36-0 on Bryer Strom's 4-yard TD run with 5:44 to play in the third quarter, Derek Lindow connected with Keanu Yabandith on a 24-yard scoring play at the 1:19 mark as the Tigers trailed 36-6 entering the fourth quarter.
Jonas Spry's 4-yard TD run at the 9:30 mark and Kethan Dalby's 60-yard TD run with 5:34 to play concluded the scoring.
The Tigers finished with 198 yards in offense with Luke DeWulf completing 5 of 9 passes for 86 yards and Lindow completing 7 of 14 passes for 80 yards. Ben Soldwisch had two receptions for 97 yards, Yabandith made two catches for 26 yards and Dan Mistic had five receptions for 20 yards. Chance Braton was Nevis' leading rusher, gaining 10 yards on three carries. DeWulf and Ian Ahrendt combined for 16 yards on 12 carries.
Defensively, Soldwisch had eight solo tackles, Braton made seven solo tackles and intercepted a pass, and Mistic had five solo tackles.
Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal defeated Clearbrook-Gonvick 40-8 to improve to 2-0 in the section while Rothsay lost to Hancock 41-18 to fall to 1-1 on the season. Win-E-Mac and Nevis are also 1-1. Park Christian (which lost to Verndale 58-6) and Laporte (which lost to Grygla-Goodridge 48-8) fell to 0-2 in the section.
In the district standings, Stephen-Argyle (a 47-0 winner over Warren-Alvarado-Oslo) joined NCE/UH and Grygla-Goodridge at 2-0. Kittson County Central improved to 1-1 with a 26-6 win over Northern Freeze (which fell to 1-1). Clearbrook-Gonvick, W-A-O and Laporte are all 0-2.
Nevis, which was rated No. 4 in the first state 9-man poll, hosts Laporte this Friday night.

WCA defeats UNC
West Central Area rushed for 238 yards and four touchdowns to spark a 28-6 win over United North Central Friday night at Sebeka.
After a scoreless first quarter, Jaden Norby's 2-yard TD run and Scott Johnson's 30-yard TD run gave WCA a 14-0 lead at the half.
The Knights extended the lead to 28-0 on Sykora's 1-yard TD run in the third quarter and Braden Overson's 1-yard TD run in the fourth quarter.
UNC avoided the shutout when Charlie Hodge hit Mason Dailey on a 17-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter.
Johnson rushed eight times for 96 yards and Overson added 62 yards on 13 carries as WCA improved to 1-0 in Midwest Blue District play and 1-1 overall. UNC fell to 0-1 against district opponents and 0-2 overall.
In Friday's other district games, Ottertail Central defeated Wadena-Deer Creek 50-6, Pillager defeated Long Prairie-Grey Eagle 41-8 and Staples-Motley was shut out by Crookston 20-0. OTC and Pillager are 2-0, LP-GE is 1-1, and W-DC and Staples-Motley fell to 0-2.
Barnesville tops the Section 8AA standings with a 2-0 record following a 28-0 win over Frazee. Hawley defeated Roseau 42-6, Bagley defeated Lake Park-Audubon 13-6, and Warroad lost to Mora 38-24. Hawley, Roseau, Bagley and Crookston are all 1-1 while Frazee and Warroad join UNC at 0-2.
UNC travels to Wadena-Deer Creek this Friday night.
