Panthers shut out in conference finale

Kayla Sayovitz's hat trick, Gabby Olson's goal and four assists, and Mackenzie Och's 24 saves led Prairie Centre to a 5-0 Mid-State Conference win over the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team Tuesday night at Wadena.

Sayovitz and Shelby Otte scored in the first period, Olson scored shorthanded in the second period, and Sayovitz completed her hat trick with two goals in the third period as the Blue Devils recorded their first shutout of the season. Prairie Centre, which defeated the Panthers 8-4 on Dec. 19, closed out the conference schedule with a 4-2 record. The Blue Devils improved to 11-11 overall.

Goalie Kylee Pachel made 19 saves for the Panthers, who tied Prairie Centre with 24 shots on goal. Park Rapids ended conference play with a 0-6 record while falling to 3-19 overall after being shut out for the ninth time this season.

Northern Lakes won the conference title with a 5-1 record while Detroit Lakes was third at 3-3.
