EGF shuts out Panthers

Four different players scored at least two goals as East Grand Forks skated to a 10-0 Section 8A win over the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley girls hockey team Saturday afternoon at the East Grand Forks Civic Arena.

Cynthia Loven, Livia Pesch, Cassidy Mack, Madison McDonald and Kendra Emery all scored in the first period to give the Green Wave a 5-0 lead. EGF held a 28-4 advantage in shots in the opening period.

EGF outshot the Panthers 28-5 in the second period as a power-play goal by Loven and a goal by McDonald extended the lead to 7-0.

Emery opened the third period with a goal before Pesch completed her hat trick with a pair of goals as EGF recorded its fourth shutout of the season.

Goalie Kylee Pachel made 53 saves as the Panthers were outshot 63-14. Park Rapid was shut out for the fourth time this season in falling to 1-6 in the section and 2-10 overall by losing for the seventh game in a row.

The Green Wave, who are rated No. 4 in the latest state Class A poll, improved to 3-1-1 in section games and 8-2-1 overall.

Thief River Falls, which is rated No. 2 in the state, tops the section standings at 5-0 (9-0-1 overall) while Warroad is rated No. 1 in the state with a 2-0-1 section record and 7-2-2 overall mark. Detroit Lakes is 3-3 in section play and 6-8 overall while Crookston is 0-4 in the section and 1-8 overall.
