Panthers advance to Section 8AA championship match

The Park Rapids volleyball team is one win away from qualifying for the state Class AA tournament.

Park Rapids (the No. 1 seed in the South) avenged a loss to Pequot Lakes (the No. 2 seed in the South) in last year's Section 8AA tournament with a 26-24, 25-21, 23-25, 25-18 victory Tuesday night at Walker in a section semifinal match. Pequot Lakes eliminated the Panthers from last year's section tournament with a 19-25, 25-20, 25-14, 25-23 win in the second round.

The Panthers will play Roseau, the No. 1 seed in the North, for the Section 8AA title Saturday night at 7 at Fosston. The winner advances to the state Class AA tournament.

Roseau advanced with a 25-22, 14-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-12 win over No. 2 Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton in Tuesday night's other semifinal match. D-G-F was the defending section champion.

Park Rapids will enter the section championship match with a 24-2 record while Roseau is 23-9. The Panthers, who have won nine matches in a row, defeated Roseau 25-11, 25-14, 20-25, 25-15 in the season opener.
