SVEA -- A 13-year-old boy was shot in a hunting accident shortly before noon Saturday in Fahlun Township.

The boy was airlifted from the scene and taken to North Memorial Hospital. No information about his condition was available Sunday evening. Authorities did not release his name. The incident occurred near the intersection of Kandiyohi County Road 3 and County Road 4 in Fahlun Township, according to a release from the Kandiyohi County Sheriff's office. The intersection is about two miles east of Svea and about a mile and a half north of Kandiyohi County Park 1, which is on the far western tip of Big Kandiyohi Lake. The Sheriff's office is investigating the incident.

Kandiyohi County Sheriff Dan Hartog said he received a preliminary report on the shooting Saturday. It appeared that the boy had been walking ahead of an adult while hunting, he said. When the adult stumbled after stepping into a hole, the gun went off.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene and were assisted by Blomkest First Responders, Willmar Ambulance, Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
