Teaching scholarships available
The local chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international organization for education, has scholarships available for students entering the teaching profession.
Graduates of Menahga, Nevis, Park Rapids or Sebeka who have been accepted into a school of education may request an application from Brianne Morris at bmorris@parkrapids.k12.mn.us, or may apply directly at adkalphaphi.weebly.com/scholarship.html.
Applications can be completed online, but additional materials must be mailed to Morris at the address listed on the website. The application deadline is Oct. 30.
Law enforcement scholarship
The Law Enforcement Scholarship Program will be awarding up to 15 scholarships this year valued at $600 due to the coordinated efforts of the 87 sheriffs in the state.
Members of the Minnesota Sheriff’s Association recognize the financial needs of students attending the peace officer skills course, or one of the two or four year law enforcement degree colleges. The scholarship committee intends on achieving representation from all geographical areas of the state, and scholarship awards will be announced by Dec. 28.

Application forms and a statement of procedure are available at both the Hubbard and Wadena County Sheriff’s offices. Scholarships are only available to students currently enrolled in one of the following three categories: a mandated POST Skills Program, in their second year of a two year law enforcement program or in their third or fourth year of a four-year college criminal justice program.
In order to qualify, students must have completed at least one year of the two-year program or two years of a four-year program. Students meeting these criteria are invited to obtain a scholarship application form from their local sheriff’s office or online at www.mnsheriffs.org.
