Park Rapids girls run to title at Bagley

The Panthers had four runners finish in the top 25 to lead the 21-team field.

Having four runners finish in the top 25 led the Park Rapids girls cross country team to the title at the Bagley Invitational at Twin Pines Golf Course on Tuesday, Sept. 21.

Morgan Koppelman led the Panthers by finishing ninth overall with a 5K time of 20:57. Natalia Lopez was 18th in 22:17, Aleka London placed 20th in 22:18 and Julia Harmon was 22nd in 22:34. Grace Etter rounded out Park Rapids’ team score of 86 points in this 21-team meet by finishing 37th in 24:01 in her varsity debut. Mackenzie Mack (82nd in 27:37) and Breanna DeBlieck (83rd in 27:47) also ran in their first varsity meets for the Panthers.

Thief River Falls claimed runner-up honors with 109 points while United North Central finished third with 113 points. Anjalie Aho clocked a runner-up time of 20:06 to lead the Warriors. Joanna Lehto (27th in 23:07), Elsa Komppa (29th in 23:07), Kaarin Lehto (35th in 23:52) and Kaylee Westberg (39th in 24:10) rounded out UNC’s team score. Mattea Smith (40th in 24:14) was the other runner for the Warriors.

Bemidji’s Mia Hoffman led the 89-runner field with a winning time of 20:04.

PR boys finish 7th

Logan Maanum finished 10th with a 5K time of 18:05 in leading Park Rapids to seventh place with 190 points in the boys meet.


Thomas Lopez (26th in 19:17), Asher Bervig (31st in 19:35), Damien Dejarlais (64th in 21:27) and Cameron Runyan (77th in 21:56) rounded out the Panthers’ team score. Pierce DeBlieck (83rd in 22:02) and Jarett Galzki (90th in 22:30) also ran varsity for Park Rapids. Bervig, Dejarlais and Galzki made their varsity debuts.

UNC fielded an incomplete team with Riley Livingston finishing 35th in 20:01, Wesley Hodge placing 111th in 24:34 and Henry Hultberg finishing 120th in 26:32.

East Grand Forks’ Jonathan Krueger led the 121-runner field with a winning time of 16:54 while Bemidji claimed the team title in this 21-team meet with 51 points. East Grand Forks, which was rated No. 14 in the latest state Class AA poll, was second with 83 points.
