After waiting and waiting for warm weather and summer to come, we might be getting a glimpse. This weekend's forecast calls for temperatures to be in the mid-to-high 70s, nearing 80, mostly sunny and a calm wind. Could this be the start of summer...

After waiting and waiting for warm weather and summer to come, we might be getting a glimpse.

This weekend's forecast calls for temperatures to be in the mid-to-high 70s, nearing 80, mostly sunny and a calm wind.

Could this be the start of summer? We hate to jinx it, but after an extremely cool start to June, it's hard to contain our excitement.

The Park Rapids lakes area thrives when summer comes. Tourists come to expect good weather when they visit their favorite resort or take a trip to their annual campground.

We come to expect summer weather as well. So we should enjoy it while we can.

Take a drive along the Lake Country Scenic Byway, an 88-mile corridor along Highway 34 between Detroit Lakes and Walker with a spur north from Park Rapids on Highway 71 to Itasca State Park.

Have you made it to Itasca State Park yet this year? Check it out. It's Minnesota's oldest state park, established in 1891. There are ample places to hike, picnic, bike or simply relax. And don't forget to take a walk across the Headwaters of the Mississippi.

The North Country Trail runs through Itasca and Hubbard County. If you like to hike, be sure to try out this popular trail.

Enjoy fishing? There's a multitude of clear lakes to take a boat onto for fantastic fishing.

Weather approaching 80 degrees signals a perfect opportunity for a bike ride along the Heartland Trail, starting in Park Rapids and traveling through Dorset, Nevis, Akeley, Walker and ends up at Cass Lake.

Golf enthusiasts have no shortage of opportunities to enjoy a round on a variety of courses for beginners or pros.

No matter what you enjoy to do in the outdoors during the summer, make sure to wear plenty of sunscreen and bug spray.

Let's hope this cold streak is coming to an end. Here's hoping for a long summer with lots of sun and 80 degree days.
