I am dumbfounded by the fact that I hear very few Americans upset by the fact that our First Amendment right of free speech is so openly and blatantly being trampled upon. This should not be a partisan issue. All Americans should be extremely outraged over it.

Do we need to remind people that the most inhumane, totalitarian systems in history always started with a cancel culture? Lenin's Bolshevik's in 1917, Hitler's Nazis in the 1930s, Mao Zedong in 1949 – all started their reign with a cancel culture to stamp out dissent, control a narrative and erase society's connection to their historical past.

What is happening before our eyes is an obvious attempt at erasing our historical past by pulling down statues, renaming buildings and rewriting history books and teaching standards, an obvious attempt to stamp out any and all dissent to a one-sided narrative and thus control the national narrative. Ask yourself who that narrative is benefitting. Is it you and your community? Or is it the rich elites and technocrats? Do you believe that the government leaders and institutions have your best interest in mind? Are they improving our country?

There is a big difference between hate speech and just an opposing opinion. Can we have enough civility to listen to each other without cancelling? If someone voices an opinion today that you disagree with and gets cancelled, who is to say that will not be your voice tomorrow?

Too many people have died to secure your and my freedom to speak our minds. Don't let that freedom slip away. Once it is gone, it costs many, many lives to get it back!
