We are part of The Trust Project.

Imagine the sense of loss you’ll feel this autumn driving Hwy. 34 knowing the beauty of oaks, maples and poplar, contrasting with evergreens, will exist no more. Imagine dirt and asphalt where beautiful flowers grew and wetlands thrived.

Stewardship of our planet and individual responsibilities are tied together, thus overuse of herbicides and pesticides, particularly neonicotinoids, are devastating to our pollinators and now found to harm other creatures and species.

When we get info stating “it’ll do no harm,” consider damaged aquifers, depletion of the water table by irrigation, air pollutants, etc.

Everything we do to destroy or disrupt nature is all related. And for the common welfare, we need to be aware of our actions.

Should we consider the future to include the wonders of nature for generations to come and curb our activities with more constructive behavior?

Let’s begin by reevaluating the project on Hwy. 34. The negatives far outweigh any perceived necessities stated by MnDOT and others who may profit from the venture.

Decades will pass before any semblance of that beauty will be restored. “We don’t know what we have until it’s gone.”

To show support, call Gov. Walz, state reps and senators and also MnDOT. Many voices get attention, hopefully positive.

As Rachel Carson says, “The more clearly we can focus our attention on the wonders and realities of the universe, the less taste we shall have for destruction.”
