I believe we need to pay more attention to what Dr. Michael Osterholm is saying regarding COVID and variants. He heads infection control at the University of Minnesota hospital in Minneapolis and is an expert in his field.
During this past year, he has been spot-on on his predictions as to how the virus would behave. Right every time!
He believes this U.K. variant will show its ugly head this March and that we are moving too quickly ahead to lay protective measures aside.
I, personally, do not believe in opening up high school. That is too cavalier, in my opinion. And those that do should at least eliminate contact sports.
It dismayed me to see Park Rapids High School students locked together on a wrestling mat pictured in the Enterprise. Nor should students engage in swimming, also pictured.

It wasn’t that long ago that Hubbard County had a 27-point positivity rate when Minnesota was not to go over 5 points.
Countries in Europe, where the U.K. variant is spreading, are in lock down. We’re headed there if we don’t exercise caution and follow the CDC guidelines, particularly wearing appropriate masks and not “chin diapers” that Dr. Osterholm refers to when we leave our noses hanging out.
