LETTER: High tax state?

Republicans in Minnesota’s Legislature are pushing for major tax refunds, using the current revenue surplus. They like to say “tax and spend Democrats” are not looking out for the people, while they are. This is one short-sighted way to attract voters.
According to analysis of federal data in the current AARP Bulletin, two of our neighboring red states – Iowa and South Dakota – have 18.9% and 17.3% of their bridges rated as structurally deficient while Minnesota comes in at less than 5%.
Of course, Republicans in Congress, too, mostly opposed President Biden’s Build Back Better program, which addressed this transportation/safety problem.
It seems like you get what you pay for.
