LETTER TO EDITOR: Men: You are not alone
I pray and hope this letter reaches the eyes and hearts of as many men as possible.
We at the FATHER Project want men in the community to know we are here for them. We are here to listen to the hardships. We are a safe place for men to come and speak and not be judged. We know it's hard. Relationships are hard, parenting is hard, life itself is hard.
The days of old have passed. We are not our fathers or our grandfathers. We are ourselves. Unfortunately, our hearts, minds, and souls and even our DNA have been tainted by the trauma of previous generations of men. Unless we learn a new way, pain, suffering, violence and many other negative things will continue.
We are the roadmaps that our children will follow when they begin relationships.
People say they will never parent the way they were parented, but unfortunately, most do because it is hardwired in the brain and they lack the information to do better.
It's up to us to break generational curses. When they say, "It runs in the family," you tell them, "And this is where it runs out."
Are you willing to take a stand? Are you willing to stop the cycle? Are you willing to work on yourself and become aware, to hold yourself to a standard you are proud of and want your children to follow?
I want men who are struggling to know that there are a lot of other men who are struggling, too. You are not alone. Please, reach out, call us at 255-2063 or come visit. We owe it to the ones we love that in the face of hardships, we respond with love and not with destruction.
