Letter to Editor: Looking for Osage descendants

In 1879, homesteading was opened, and in the early years of that period, several families found their way to the lakes, rivers, prairies and pine forests of what we now know as Osage, Minn.

A descendant of one of those first settlers has made a gift to the Riverside Cemetery, enabling the cemetery to establish a historic marker. We are having a dedication of that marker 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 24.

If you or anyone you know is a descendant of one of the following families, we are looking for early photographs, any oral history or period artifacts which you would be willing to share on that day. Everyone is invited to attend.

The earliest homesteaders were Andrew Allen, William Bateman, Cyrus Bullock, George Carson, Dewitt Clason, Frank George, Elijah Frazier, Mat Gerry, John Gillian, William Grant, J.W. Hawkins, John Hauser, Nat Leachman, Ambrose Mann, Peter McIntyre, Squire McKinley, E.J. Moore, Edward Peets, Luther Phelps, J.D. Pratt, August Retzlaff, Mrs. P.B. Sackett, Arthur Sanderson, Peter Sartain, G.F. Seigford, J.F. Seigford, John Schuman, Steener Peterson, Frank Tooley, Abraham and Daniel Witter.
