We're in the midst of summer and there's no shortage of things to do in lakes country.
Each Thursday evening throughout the summer downtown Park Rapids will have a 2nd Street Stage event featuring music, entertainment, kids activities and a beer garden. The kick-off was last week and was a success. People were drawn to the music.
Next week is the big kick-off to summer with the Fourth of July boat parades, Firecracker Footrace, parade on Main street, Community Band concert at Red Bridge Park and the spectacular fireworks show over Fish Hook River.
Also next week is the 34th annual Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Touring Pro Division Bull Ride July 4-5 will be followed by the return of the of Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) ProRodeo July 6-7.
The expanded event will be a real treat to audiences with some of the best bull riders and cowboys/cowgirls in town.

This year the 117th annual Hubbard County Fair, put on by the Shell Prairie Ag Association, is from July 4-8 at the fairgrounds. The midway will be set up on the Fourth of July holiday for some activities, however, the 4-H and open class exhibits won't be set up until Thursday, July 5.
Make sure to come out for your favorite fair foods from cheese curds to ice cream and check out the grand stand shows, tractor pull and demo derby.
Also on the horizon is the Menahga Midsummer Celebration and Carnival with even more events July 6-8. New this year are rides and amusement for kids and the Great Lakes Timber Show Sunday, July 8 at Spirit Lake, featuring log rolling, chainsawing and more.
The Nevis Pig Races return as well.
Nevis' Muskie Park, 10 miles east of Park Rapids, will become Muskie Downs Sunday, July 8 when renowned pig trainer Gary Dauer arrives with his pinks - and high jinx - for an afternoon of entertainment.
This year's event, the fourth annual Nevis Pig Races, will feature two runs, the gates opening for the swiftest swine off the line at 1:05 p.m. and 4:05 p.m.
So, as you can see, there's something for everyone in lakes country in the next few weeks.
Stay tuned to the Enterprise for more events throughout the summer.
