Kahbe Nagwi Wens, also known as “Old Wrinkled Meat” or John Smith, resided in the northern part of Hubbard County by Cass Lake. He lived to be over 137 years old – from about 1780 to 1922.
He had wrinkles so deep you could hide pennies in them.
“What has given me the greatest pleasure of my life? I have fought in battles. The white man has been my friend. I loved a woman. The Great Spirit has talked to me by the campfire and in the sound of falling waters – and I have understood,” he said.
