Virginia I. Peterson

Virginia Iona Peterson, 90, a longtime resident of Badoura Township, MN passed away Monday, September 27, 2021 at the Care Age Country Home in Park Rapids.

Virginia was born December 21, 1930 in Becker, MN to Samuel and Ellen (Metzger) McCalla. She graduated with the Becker High School class of 1948 and also attended St. Cloud Business College. After graduating, she worked at Ah-Gwah-Ching Sanitorium in Walker, MN where she was introduced to Harry “Bud” Peterson. On March 13, 1954 they were united in marriage in Elk River, MN. They made their home in rural Akeley, MN where they dairy-farmed and raised their family.

Virginia, known as Ginny by family and close friends, enjoyed gardening, cooking and reading. She was also a member of the Deerfield Ladies Aid for many years and worked on the Harvest Supper that so many enjoyed each fall. In her later years she did some traveling around the country and enjoyed meeting people. But she will be remembered the most for her upbeat, positive attitude.

Virginia is survived by her children, Raymond Peterson of Backus, MN, Deb and Carol Peterson of Cottage Grove, MN: siblings, Leola Moores of Winter, WI and Lowell (Marcie) McCalla of Chicago, IL.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Ellen; her husband, Harry; brothers, Russell, Eugene, Don, Merlin, Doug, Wayne, Jack; sisters, Phoebe (Olsen), Phyllis, and Marion (Dyson).

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 2, 2021 at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Nevis, MN. Visitation is for 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Akeley City Cemetery.
