Sylvester “Buster” Eischens

Sylvester “Buster” Jacob Eischens, 87, of Two Inlets, MN died on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at his home.

Buster was born on December 20, 1933 in Two Inlets, MN, the son of Nick and Mabel (Olson) Eischens. He attended Park Rapids area schools and graduated from high school in 1951. He was inducted into the US Air Force on November 18, 1953. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant on November 11, 1957. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Air Crew Member’s Badge. He was united in marriage to Joan A. Waldorf on October 17, 1959 in Two Inlets, MN. They made their home and farmed in Two Inlets raising 12 children together. He worked for 50 years as a sheet metal union worker, retiring from the industry in 1995. He worked for many years for Knapp & Brower Plumbing and Heating & for Thielen Plumbing and Heating. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Two Inlets, the Knights of Columbus Council 6443, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 870, American Legion Post #212, and the Sheet Metal Worker’s Local No. 10 Union. He was the honor guard captain for many years. He enjoyed hunting, ATV riding, dancing, being a lifelong farmer, mechanic, pilot and devoted father & grandfather. He was the best husband and father his family could ask for and will leave a legacy for years to come.

Buster is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Joan Eischens of Two Inlets, MN; 11 children, John (Debi) Eischens of Frazee, MN, Ann (Ed) Hensel of Park Rapids, MN, Karen (Jim) Wettels of Ponsford, MN, Judy (Bill) Grundy of Bemidji, MN, Doug (Renee) Eischens Parker, CO, Jerry (Paula) Eischens of Park Rapids, MN, Terri (Steve) Quittschreiber of Frazee, MN, Mark (Sherrie) Osage, MN, Mary (Jeff) Lawler of Eden Prairie, MN, Andy (Kim) Eischens of Park Rapids, MN and Sara Eischens of Park Rapids, MN; 30 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren (with 1 on the way); 3 brothers, Bernard (Alice) Eischens of Bagley, MN, Leroy (Janet) Eischens of Oakdale, MN and George Eischens of Tumwater, WA; a sister, Joanne Gitchell of Walker, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Thiede; his parents, Nick and Mabel Eischens; 3 brothers, Lawrence, Jerome and Kenny Eischens; and 4 sisters, Barbara Hamuin, Leona Horkey, Lillian Holcomb and Marie Schroeder.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 19, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Two Inlets, MN with Rev. Thomas Friedl celebrating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 18th at the Cease Family Funeral Home of Park Rapids, MN and for one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church.
