Ruth J. Larsen
Ruth Larsen died October 4, 2020, at St. Joseph’s Hospital Hospice in Park Rapids.
Ruth Juneal Haarstick was born October 1, 1927, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Carl and Helena (Kumm) Haarstick. She attended school in Fergus Falls from kindergarten to her graduation from Washington High School in 1945.
She attended Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Indiana and Moorhead State Teachers College, Moorhead, Minnesota, where she graduated in 1949. She attended United Theological Seminary, New Brighton, Minnesota, where she received an M.A. in Religious Studies in 1987.
On June 9, 1951 she married Daniel Bruce Larsen in Fergus Falls. They lived in Joplin, Montana; Park Rapids, Halma, and Ada, Minnesota.
She taught English in Hawley and Ada, Minnesota; at Tarsus Amerikan School, Tarsus, Turkey, and Koc Ozel Lisesi, Istanbul, Turkey. She worked part-time at the Park Rapids Area Library and at Living at Home in Park Rapids.
She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Park Rapids where she participated in Choir, Peace Circle, OWLS, Stephen Ministry, Caring and Outreach Committee, Quilting, Altar Guild, and Via de Cristo. She was a member of WOW, a book club, and had been active in many other church and community organizations.
She is survived by three children: Rebecca Larsen, Lake Park, Minnesota; Jan (Richard) Fehr, Page, Arizona; and Mark (Mindy Micek) Larsen, St. Paul, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Katherine Pfitzinger, Tristan Fehr, and James and Sonja Larsen; and two nephews, Steven Farrell, and Eric Larsen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Jeffrey, her sister Wilmine Farrell, her sister-in-law Mary Larsen, and nephews Patrick Farrell, Henry and Gregory Larsen.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids, Pastor Steve Norby will attend, Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Park Rapids.
