Richard Wayne Weech
Richard Wayne Weech, 96, of Park Rapids died Saturday, November 21, 2020 at CHI St. Joseph’s Health. He was the husband of Carol Mae Weech. They were married on March 12, 1949 and celebrated 67 years of marriage before Carol passed in 2016.
Born on June 20, 1924 in Lewiston, MN, he was the son of the late Raymond Clifton and Katherine (Bachman) Weech. He grew up in Minnesota and graduated from Mankato High School in 1942. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Mankato State Teachers College in 1948 and a Master of Arts Degree from the University of Minnesota in 1954. He taught high school at St. James and Roseville, MN.
He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1942. As an officer he served with the Second Marine Division in the Pacific Theater during World War II and with the First Marine Division in the Korean War. He left the Marine Corps in 1953. He was awarded the National Defense Medal, Korean Services Medal with three bronze stars and a Korean Presidential Unit Citation.
Mr. Weech was a thirty-year employee of the Sperry (Univac) Corporation as an instructor and then Director of Field Engineering Maintenance Organizations located in the Minnesota Twin Cities, New York City, Canada, Vietnam, and Blue Bell Pennsylvania areas. He retired from Sperry in 1985.
While living in New Jersey and commuting to his work in New York City, he held leadership positions in the Boy Scouts of America and the Lutheran Church in North Plainfield, NJ. He also taught Sunday School. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansdale, PA and a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church of Park Rapids, MN.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, LaDene Verda Brandt-Weech; grandchildren, Crystal Verda Weech, Heather Carol (Dan) McDonald, and Richard Stephen Weech; great grandchildren, Elliott McDonald and Sadie Morgan; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; son Stephen Richard Weech; two grandchildren twins, Timothy and Christine Weech; brother and sister-in-law, Robert John and Dorsey Barnes Weech; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold Korelius and Lorraine Larson Dainsberg and sister-in-law, Emelyn Irene Larson.
Services are yet to be decided. Inurnment will be private.
