Florence G. Hensel, 83, of Park Rapids, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, N.D.
She was born to Ernest and Cecelia (Esser) Amundson, May 8, 1937 in rural Two Inlets. As a young girl she lived in many communities and was living in and attending school at Ogema in 1945 when her father passed away. The family returned to Two Inlets and Joe Resch became her stepfather in 1949.
She attended St. Peter’s Catholic School and graduated from Park Rapids High School with the class of 1955.
On November 5, 1955 she married Walter C. Hensel in Park Rapids. They made their home in the Park Rapids area until purchasing their farm in Osage Township in 1961. They raised eight children. When her youngest child started school, she became employed by Sunset Nursing Home as a CNA/Med Aide finishing her 27-year career as a receptionist in 1999 at the renamed Heritage Living Center.
She was a longtime member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids. She was a member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters, St. Adolph Court 901, Park Rapids. In 1979 she received the Honorary Chapter Farmer Award from the Future Farmers of America.
Florence enjoyed family get togethers especially when all the children and grand and great grandchildren were all there. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching old country music shows on RFD TV, and in earlier years she did a lot of crocheting and knitting.
She is survived by seven children, Roger (Linda) of Osage, Russ (Angi) of Nevis, Evon, Darryl, Cathy, Duane (Missi) and Greg (Sheila) all of Park Rapids; daughter-in-law, Natalie Hensel of Sebeka; 19 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; brother Vernon Amundson of Waconia; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; son, Joe; father, Ernest; mother and stepfather, Cecelia and Joe Resch; brothers, Leonard and Charles Amundson and sister Anna Schlauderaff.
Visitation Tuesday, March 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. with prayer service and Rosary at 7 p.m. at Cease Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 31 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.
