Joan May Dartt, age 86, of Nevis, MN passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at the New Perspective Senior Living in Waconia, MN.
Joan was born on January 23, 1934, to parents Edward and Anna (Archambeau) Parson in Duluth, MN. She graduated from Duluth Denfield High School in June 1953. She moved to Minneapolis on her own after the loss of her mother at the age of 21. Shortly after she found employment with Donaldson’s at Southdale as one of the very few women in store display. A mutual friend introduced her to Denis Dartt, and on November 30, 1963 they were united in marriage.
Joan spent her free time pursuing several types of art. She made her own jewelry, pottery, folk art and water color painting.
With the adoption of Michael and Lisa, she turned her focus to motherhood. She provided a loving home for her family, cooking home cooked meals and keeping a nice house, even if that meant vacuuming the kids’ rooms at 4:00 A.M.
Once both kids were in school full time she went back to work part time in retail, always searching for some new excitement or challenge. After several years she started successfully selling furniture full time, helping her customers redesign their rooms. She retired after approximately 30 years, and moved with Denis to Nevis, MN to spend their time at their lake home.
Joan was very adventurous. She took every opportunity to travel, whether with the family, her sisters, or to strike out by herself. As a young woman she spent much of her time traveling to various places, including Austria, to ski. She was a very good skier, both downhill and cross country.
She enjoyed the theater and attended seasonal productions at the Guthrie Theater as well as many musicals. She was a longtime member of the Minnesota General Federation of Women’s Club, Minnetonka Chapter and served as president during the 80’s. Joan was a devout Catholic and volunteered her time giving communion and supporting the Haiti Mission at Our Lady of the Pines. She loved her family and friends very dearly and spent much of her time caring for others.
Joan is survived by her children, Michael (Leslie) Dartt of Carver, MN, and Lisa (Chad) Dartt of Minnetonka, MN; her brother, Albert (Violet) Parson of Duluth, MN; her sister, Sandra (Richard) Walter of Vienna, VA; her grandchildren, Logan Dartt and Amanda Hernandaz; great grandson, Luke Hernandaz; 6 nephews and 5 nieces.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Denis Dartt; siblings, Lorraine Batner, Arnold Parson and Gerold Parson.
Because of the current public health issue, private family only services will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2020 in Nevis, MN. Joan’s family suggests memorials may given to the OLP Haiti Fund in Lieu of flowers.
