Darwin Dennis (Denny) Wallert died Oct.. 7, 2019 at Largo Medical Emergency Center in Largo FL. Denny was born Sept. 10, 1944 to Darwin (Darvey) and Clara (Weihe) Wallert. at Gaylord, MN. Denny was confirmed at St. Paul’s Church, Arlington MN in 1958 and was a talented student and pianist winning a state-wide award for piano at 9 years old. Denny attended Martin Luther College Prep School, New Ulm MN at age 12 and focused on music and choir directing. In 1961 Denny’s father was killed in an accident a week before Denny’s 17th birthday. Denny went home and graduated from Arlington High. After graduation he joined the Army and was headed for Viet Nam but last minute order changes kept him at Aberdeen Proving Grounds near Washington DC where he taught electronics. Following the Army, Denny graduated from MN School of Business and had a successful business career at a few Minneapolis-area companies including Hitchcock Companies and Jostens, where he rose from plant manager to Mergers and Acquisitions and, eventually, Vice President. Denny retired early and, having purchased a condo in Dunedin FL from his aunt, planned to build a cabin in MN and spend part of the year at each. He moved to Park Rapids in 2000 and began looking for a lake lot. He worked as a day trader, online, at this point His mother passed away in 2001 and Denny was at her side. While attending St. John’s Lutheran Church and singing in the choir, he met his future wife, Connie (Wallick) Bruse. They were married Sept. 28, 2002 Connie worked at Citizens National Bank and Denny tested and became a licensed real estate broker, starting the First Choice ReMax Agency in Park Rapids. Upon Connie’s retirement, they moved to Dunedin and began attending Bethel Lutheran Church, Clearwater, FL. Through his lifetime, Denny directed choirs at two churches in the Minneapolis area, St. John’s in Park Rapids and Bethel Lutheran. Denny is preceded in death by his father, mother and beloved sister, Marilyn Bright. He is survived by his wife, Connie, New Port Richey, FL and stepsons Todd, Brian and Darrin Bruse and nieces Susan Bergquist and Kris Zimmerman and families, all of the Minneapolis area. There will be a memorial service for Denny at Bethel Lutheran Church Clearwater FL Fri. Dec. 20 at 11 a.m. followed by a short committal service in the Garden of Faith on the church grounds. Denny will be remembered for his love for golfing and fishing, his wit, his will to live while fighting many illnesses and his unswerving faith and scriptural dedication.
