Janet Kay Coumbe

Janet Kay Coumbe (Leidall) (75), of Park Rapids, MN passed away on Saturday morning, November 14th, 2020 surrounded by her son Matt, and daughter Sarah. Jan was born on July 22nd, 1945 in Osage, IA. Jan grew up in Lyle, MN where she graduated from Lyle High School. Jan married John Coumbe of Austin, MN in 1965 and began their life together in St. Louis, MO. From there, they moved to Aberdeen, SD and then back to their home state of Minnesota where they started their family in 1971 with the birth of their first child, Matt and second child, Sarah in 1975. After living in Shoreview, Roseville, and Eden Prairie, MN, Jan and John decided to purchase Eagle Beach Resort in the fall of 1980 and continue raising their family in Park Rapids, MN. After expanding the resort, Jan decided to finish her formal education, graduating from Bemidji State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Jan’s greatest accomplishment, however, was her love of family and serving others. Jan worked with Women’s shelters, Food Shelves, and Kinship programs where she gave of herself by helping others. Jan was passionate about everything in which she was involved, but had an extraordinary attachment to the resort. Over the last 40 years, Eagle Beach has been home to weddings, over 100 baptisms, and thousands of family traditions. Eagle Beach was a mission for Jan and one that her, her family, and guests have been a part. Jan lived life to the absolute fullest and in the last month, traveled to Arizona with her son where she hiked parts of the Grand Canyon and Sedona and spent countless hours with her daughter and grandchildren, even managing to decorate her daughter and son’s homes for the upcoming Christmas season. Jan loved the beauty found in nature and the outdoors. She treasured sunsets at the resort, downhill skiing, the colors of fall, and the newness of spring. She also loved to celebrate the holidays, to explore, and was always willing to go shopping and out to eat, but most of all, she loved the Lord with all her heart and soul.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband John Coumbe of Park Rapids, parents June and Laverne Leidall of Lyle, and her brother Bruce Leidall of Buffalo. Jan is survived by her son Matthew (Ann) Coumbe of Park Rapids/Eden Prairie, and daughter Sarah (Travis) Coumbe-Guida of Park Rapids/Laporte. Jan also has seven grandchildren (Kristina, Jasmine, James, Eric, Bolin, Janeah, and Avelyn and four grand dogs (Moose, Bear, Diego, and Gracie). Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, November 17th, 2020 at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, Park Rapids, MN. A celebration of life service will also be held on Saturday, November 21st at Covenant Church, Bemidji, MN at 1:30pm.
