Dean L. Schied
Dean passed away on April 19, 2020 at the Mountain Lake Good Samaritan at the age of 101. He is survived by his daughter Jan (Mark) Herbert; Grandson Luke (Lindsey) Herbert, their children: Sam, Maisy, and Ruby; Granddaughter Lindsay (Aaron) Brutger, their children Aidyn, Autumn, Louis, Lincoln; Son Jay.
Born in Albert Lea, he moved to San Diego shortly after Pearl Harbor working for Consolidated Aircraft, building B-24 bombers. He enlisted in the Army July 1944, serving in the Philippines and occupied Japan. He earned the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf cluster and the Bronze Star.
Returning to Minnesota, he married Virginia Leebens. He owned and operated the State Theater, drove school bus and was a Postal Clerk.
He was active in the American Legion for 75 years, a frequent blood donor, and a hunter. He enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking and raising apples. Preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Al and sister-in-law Vi, siblings Oscar and Viola, brother-in-law Jorgen Jensen and sister-in-law Ora Jensen
His was an active, caring life well lived.
Celebration of Life service at Mt. Lake Cemetary on Sept. 19, 2020 at 2pm.
Memorials to the First Presbyterian Church of Mountain Lake or Pheasants Forever, Cottonwood County Chapter are preferred.
