David James Gabriel, 64, passed from this life into eternal life on Saturday, February 22, 2020, in Spearfish, SD.

David was born on January 3, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of James and Dolores Gabriel, and was the oldest of eight children.

In 1968, David moved with his family to Alaska where he attended school in Valdez. In 1973, David moved with his family to Park Rapids, Minnesota, and lived there until 2007. While he lived in Park Rapids, he attended the Developmental Achievement Center (DAC), and had a part-time janitorial job at Lamb Weston RDO Frozen.

In 2007, David moved with his parents to Spearfish. In Spearfish, David attended the Northern Hills Training Center. He loved the jobs he did there, all the clients that attended along with him, and the staff.

David was a pure ray of sunshine to everyone he met. He not only lit up a room, but he lit up the life of every person who met him. He was so incredibly loving, kind, happy, and had an incredibly infectious smile. He was a true cowboy (and country-singing superstar!), and he loved to sing, play his guitar, and dance.

David was proceeded in death by his father, James Gabriel. He is survived by his mother, Dolores Gabriel; brothers, Jim (Cheri Burkhart) Gabriel, Ken (Joan) Gabriel, Steve (Paula) Gabriel, Gordon (Joy) Gabriel; sisters, Kathy (Larry) Severin, Sue Taylor, and Barb (Chuck) Syverson, along with many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial took place on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Spearfish.  Inurnment followed at Black Hills National Cemetery.
