Charles M. Andress
Charles M. Andress, 94, Akeley MN passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at his home.
He was born September 22, 1926, at the Andress Farm in White Oak Township to Arthur and Ethel (Sutliff) Andress. He attended Badoura Country School, Akeley Public School, and graduated with honors in 1946 from the North Central School of Agriculture in Grand Rapids.
From April 1946 to September 1947 he served in WWII in the Pacific Theater. Returning home, he worked for American Hoist in Minneapolis, the family farm in Akeley then worked for the Mitchell Farm in Houghton, SD until 1955 when he purchased a farm in Badoura Township where he operated a beef, dairy, and hog farm until he retired in 2006.
On March 20, 1948 Charles married Jane Buck in Chamberlain, MN. They were blessed with 5 daughters and 1 son.
Charles enjoyed working on the family farm, feeding birds, mowing the lawn, Viking football, and he loved to tease his grandchildren and spend time with his family.
He was an active member at Fellowship Baptist Church in Nevis and Chamberlain White Oak Baptist Church. He served on the Akeley school board, the Hubbard County Planning Commission, and the Badoura Township Board. He served 23 years as a Director at Itasca Mantrap Electric Co-op (1981-2004), and served as commander at Akeley VFW Post 8508.
Charles is survived by his wife of 72 years, Jane; his children, Chuck Andress of Akeley, Jeanne (Andy) Barter of Dallas, TX, Sheryl Staehnke of Nevis, Pam (Dan) Martin of Nevis, and Lori (Randy) Beard of Bemidji, Jim Anderson (son-in-law) of Walker, sister, Myrna (Frank) Whitcomb; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sheila Anderson; granddaughter, Ellie Andress; 4 sisters, June Hemp, Ramona VanCanneyt, Charlotte Staehnke, and Virginia Hensel.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2020, at 1:00 PM at the Faithbridge Church in Park Rapids, MN. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, from 5 until 7 PM at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday. Interment will be held at the White Oak Cemetery at Chamberlain at 3PM on Thursday, the public is welcome to attend.
