Bonnie J. Tharalson

Bonnie Jane Tharalson, 78, Park Rapids, MN passed away Sunday, December 12, 2021 at CHI St. Joseph’s Area Health Services while battling bacterial pneumonia.

Bonnie was born February 24, 1943 to Rolland and Jeanette (Weber) Holmes in Red Wing, MN. She grew up on the family farm outside Welch Village, MN and graduated from Cannon Falls High School in the spring of 1961. On October 28th Bonnie married her high school sweetheart, Richard “Dick” Tharalson, at the Vasa Lutheran Church in Welch, MN. They resided in Red Wing and later moved to St. Paul, MN where they had their children, Gary, Jeff, and Tammy. They spent weekends at their cabin on Pickerel Lake in Park Rapids until moving to Blue Lake in 1978.

Bonnie worked at Control Data Corporation in Minneapolis until 1978. In Park Rapids she cleaned houses and resorts and was well-known for working at Emmaville. She also helped with Dick’s auto repair business.

Bonnie was very social and spent much of her time out and about with friends when she wasn’t enjoying her home on Blue Lake. She enjoyed being outside gardening, pontooning, the company of her kitties, having a cold one on her deck looking out at the lake, and having bonfires. Bonnie adored all animals, but loved her kitties most of all. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy and she lit up whenever they were around.

Bonnie is survived by her brother, “Pete” Kenneth Holmes; children, Gary Tharalson, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Tharalson, and Tammy (Ben) Ott; grandchildren, Lindsey Tharalson (Bryan Ridgley), Danielle (Tyler) Boyda, Kirsten Tharalson, Jeromy Tharalson (Rachel Matiatos), Joseph Moore, Tyler Ott, Brennyn Ott, Jeffrey Tharalson, and Jocelyn Tharalson; great-grandchildren, Logan Boyda, Sophia Ridgley, Ethan Ridgley, Maya Kanke-Goss, and Maci Boyda.

She is preceded in death by her parents, five siblings, and her husband of 57 years, Richard.

Bonnie’s celebration of life will be held at her favorite watering hole, The Bully Barn, on Saturday May 7, 2022 at 1:00 PM. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Dick, at the Lake Emma Cemetery.
