John Anthony Masog

John Anthony Masog, 70, formerly of Nevis, MN and Sun Lakes, AZ died unexpectedly on July 9, 2019, while on vacation at Lake Vermilion. John was born on July 20, 1948 in Park Rapids, MN, the son of Raymond and Beverly Masog. He grew up in Ponsford, MN and graduated from high school in Frazee, MN. He attended the University of North Dakota and graduated with a baccalaureate degree in political science. He earned a law degree at William Mitchell School of Law and practiced in Park Rapids, MN.

On May 13, 1972, John married Jacque Mueller and this union was blessed with two children, Carrie and Matt. He later married, JoAnn Zerwekh, on October 9, 2010, and became the stepfather to her children, Tyler and Ashley.

John was raised in the Catholic faith and as a child was an altar server and later became a lector. His faith was strong. He was an active member in his community serving on numerous boards with tireless commitment.

His passions were golfing, scuba diving, hunting, fishing, and boating. He loved to plant flowers and watch them bloom. He had an extensive knowledge of history and loved to watch old western movies. Above all else, John enjoyed spending time with and entertaining his family and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Beverly Masog and infant brother Michael Thomas.

John is survived by his wife, JoAnn; children, Carrie, Matt (Becky), Tyler, Ashley (Brian), 8 grandchildren, and numerous extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday July 12, 2019 from 6:30pm-8:00pm at Cease Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN and also for one hour prior to the mass at the church on Saturday. Funeral mass service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday July 13, 2019 at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Nevis, MN.
