Algene Earl "Dude" Bomstad, age 96, a long time Park Rapids, MN resident, was peacefully promoted into eternal glory on Friday, June 7, 2019 at the Villa Maria Care Center in Fargo, ND with his family at his side. Dude was born on August 16, 1922 in Lake Lillian, MN to Edgar and Hilda (Anderstrom) Bomstad. He attended country school near his parent's farm through the eighth grade and then went on to attend the Atwater Public High School where he graduated with the Class of 1941. As a young man, Dude ventured to San Diego, CA where he gained employment building planes for the war effort. On December 16, 1942, he felt it his duty to serve in World War II and enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He served as a member of the 1040th AAF Base Unit in England at the Air Base closest to France. He served bravely and honorably until his discharge on January 19, 1946. Dude returned to his hometown of Lake Lillian where he met Adeline Lundblad on a blind date. The young couple fell in love and were married on March 27, 1948. They were blessed with three children: Ronald, Margene and Ione. As newlyweds, they moved to Ipswich, SD where Dude worked as an electrician with his brother, Duane. Several years later, they moved to Litchfield where he became part owner in the Lindsay Bros. Trucking Company. He drove truck Coast to Coast hauling primarily for the Anderson Chemical Company. Dude took great pride in designing and building his family's home in Litchfield with suggestions from Adeline to make their home compatible to the needs of their growing family. In 1971, Dude and Adeline left the familiarity and comfort of their long time home area and moved to Park Rapids, MN where they bought Bill's Grocery Store which they operated together until retirement. Dude then enjoyed several part-time jobs in Park Rapids. For many years, he and Adeline enjoyed spending their winters in Inverness, FL and in later years, San Juan, TX. Dude was a lifetime member of the Otto Hendrickson American Legion Post #212 in Park Rapids, The Guy L. McDermott VFW Post 6206 in Menahga and the Park Rapids Disabled American Veterans.
