Charles (Charlie) H. Pieper

Charles (Charlie) H. Pieper

Charles (Charlie) H. Pieper, age 76, loyal husband and family man, outdoorsman, teacher and fish kisser peacefully passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019 at his home in Park Rapids, Minnesota.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 51 years, Constance (Connie) J. Pieper, his children Matthew (Dana) Pieper, Sarah Kolaas, Jason (Dorinda) Pieper, Molly (Seth) Kreger, Peggy Pieper; eleven grandchildren: Aimee, Gennavieve, Reilly, Abigail, Lucy, Gillian, Benjamin, Ella, Jessup, Eddie and Noah; and sister Sherry Pieper Pace.

Charlie met Connie, the love of his life, in Bancroft, Michigan where serendipity, teaching and the love of the outdoors brought them together. On a small farm, Charlie and Connie instilled the love of animals and gardening into their children. In 1980, Charlie and Connie moved to Kindred, ND and opened Cashman Nursery of West Fargo. Charlie also led a life of great community service, where he was a Scout Leader, Lions Club Member, active member of the West Cass Ducks Unlimited and was a Hunter's Safety Instructor. Despite all of these obligations, Charlie never missed attending a single activity in which his children were involved.

In retirement, Charlie and Connie fulfilled their dream of buying a cabin on Portage lake in Park Rapids, MN. There, he excelled at being a "grampa" by teaching his grandchildren to hunt, fish and to love and respect the outdoors. He continued his passion for the outdoors by working at Camp Wilderness for the Boy Scouts as a shooting instructor, where he earned the name, "Shotgun Charlie."

Charlie loved his wife and family more than anything in the world. His family will honor his memory by repeating the witty and hilarious sayings that were such a big part of his personality. On his way to heaven he said, "See you around, if you don't turn square." And if you are having trouble making a decision in life, he would advise you, "If at first you don't fricasee, fry fry a hen." Charlie was loved and cherished more than he could ever know.
