Harold "Rip" D. Ripley, 87, of Park Rapids, MN died at home on Friday, April 5, 2019.
Harold was born on January 30, 1932 in Elizabeth, MN the son of Harold G. and Lillian (Burau) Ripley. He grew up and attended school in Fergus Falls, graduating in 1950. He went on to serve in the US Army from 1951 until 1952. He was united in marriage to Shirley Rae Lundeen on October 18, 1953 in Fergus Falls, MN. He worked in the grocery store and meat market business in Mid MN and ND until going to work for the Park Rapids Post Office, retiring in 1992 after 20 years of service.
He retired in 1980 after 24 years with Minnesota Army National Guard as an E-7.
Rip had a lifelong interest in country music and played a variety of instruments, mostly guitar and also played in many bands, including the Virgil Blanchard band for 30 years.
He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, operating his hobby farm and wintering in Arizona and Texas since retiring.
He was a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Park Rapids American Legion, and the Park Rapids Eagles Aeire 870 Club.
Survivors include his spouse - Shirley R. Ripley of Park Rapids, MN; his daughter - Terri Young of Park Rapids; his two sons - Tom (Flor) Ripley of Elgin, S.C.; Ted (Laura) Ripley of Marietta, Georgia; his grandchildren - Peter (Tara) Young; Tory Anderson; Kyle Ripley, Megan Ripley, Caryn Fowler, Carla Bolden and Chancy Ripley and nine great grandchildren.
His sister - Arvella Peterson of Fergus Falls, MN; his sister in law - Zana (Dwight) Gunderson; sister in law - Marilyn Lundeen.
He was preceded in death in by his parents, sister - Lorraine Moran and brother in law - Bob Lundeen.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 19, 2019 from 4 until 7 PM at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel in Park Rapids, MN. A 7 PM Masonic Prayer service will be held. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Friends may leave online condolences at ceasefuneralhome.com. Arrangements are being handled by the Cease Family Funeral Home of Park Rapids.
