Joyce L. Hirschel

Joyce L. Hirschel, 91, of Roseville, MN and a long-time summer resident of Park Rapids, MN passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018. Joyce was the second of nine children born to Francis and Gladys Potter.

Following her graduation from Park Rapids High School, Joyce attended college and received a degree in Physical Education from Hamline University in St. Paul, MN. She was united in marriage to Daryl Hirschel on May 27, 1950 at the United Methodist Church in Park Rapids.

During her working career, Joyce held administrative positions at the Minnesota Department of Human Services and the University of Minnesota. She was also a long-standing member of the Order of the Eastern Star alongside Daryl, who was an active member of the Tusler-Summit Masonic Lodge. Joyce was a faithful member of the Centennial Methodist Church in Roseville. She was a devoted wife and loved spending time with her family and friends, and especially enjoyed spending summers with Daryl at their cabin on Long Lake.

Joyce is survived by her son Mark (Lori) of Oak Grove, MN, daughter Luanne (Dale) of Shoreview, MN, two grandchildren, Jamie and Jonathan, sisters, Lois Kopp, Carol (Bill) Valtinson, and Mary Taylor, as well as many nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Daryl, and five siblings, Ardelle Nustad, Jean McDonald, Doris Potter, Al Potter and Teresa Benson.

A memorial service for Joyce will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 27 at the Hubbard United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Laurie Kantonen officiating. A light lunch will be served in the church dining room following the service.
