Orrin "Bud" Edward Barnum

Orrin "Bud" Edward Barnum, 90, of Park Rapids, formerly of Nevis, MN died on Monday, September 26, 2016 at CHI St. Joseph's Area Health Services in Park Rapids, MN.

Orrin was born on April 17, 1926 at Chisago City, MN the son of Charles Earl and Ada Grace (Doll) Barnum. His early childhood was spent at Chisago City and later childhood through high school was spent at Glencoe, MN, graduating in 1944. He enlisted into the US Navy in 1944. Following naval training school at Farragut, ID he served World War II sea duty on the troop transport USS McCracken and later the mine sweeper USS Pivot. He was honorably discharge following the war in 1946. He attended Bemidji State College and Mankato State College, graduating in 1950 with a teaching degree. His teaching positions brought him to several MN schools - Little Fork; Baudette; Bemidji; and Minneapolis retiring in 1986. He was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Reithmaier at Arnolds Park, Iowa in 1961. Following their retirement they moved to Nevis, MN, and later to Park Rapids, MN.

Bud enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and golfing. He was a 50 year member of the Masons, Shriners, and the Eastern Star. He has been a longtime active member of the Nevis Church of Christ. It is notable to mention he was a charter team member on the first Bemidji State College hockey team.

He is survived by his spouse - Beverly A. Barnum of Park Rapids, MN; his children - David (Mary Lou) Barnum of Nevis, MN; Scott (Melinda) Barnum of Bloomington, MN; Lynn (Steve) Hanson of Eagen, MN; Holly (Brad) Finer of Bloomington, MN; Mark (Gilda) Barnum of Columbia Heights, MN; Bruce (Stacy) Barnum of St. Paul, MN; Lance (Jody) Barnum of Park Rapids, MN; Matthew (Sarah) Barnum of Isanti, MN. 29 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren .

He was preceded in death by his parents- Charles and Ada, and 2 brothers - Charles E. and Lowell D. Barnum.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Nevis Church of Christ. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6 until 8 PM at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN with Masonic Prayers at 7:30 PM. Visitation will also be held 1 hour prior to the services at the church. Friends may leave online condolences at
