Three solid pitching performances helped the Nevis baseball team open the season with three wins at home.

Four pitchers combined on a five-hitter as the Tigers opened the season with a 4-1 victory over Hill City/Northland on Monday, April 22. Four pitchers combined to allow seven hits as Nevis opened Northland Conference play by sweeping a doubleheader from Pine River-Backus by scores of 24-3 and 15-6 in a pair of five-inning games on Tuesday, April 23.

Ward Davis, Reese Kline, Derek Lindow and Kolby Hamblin drove in runs as the Tigers defeated Hill City/Northland despite registering only three hits. Shep Davis went 1 for 3 with two runs and Cain Mitchell went 1 for 4 with a run to lead Nevis' offense. Lindow scored the other run while Hamblin had the other hit as the Tigers scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie.

Mitchell picked up the win in relief, allowing one run on four hits in two innings of work. Wyatt Rech started and allowed one hit over three innings. Shep Davis pitched a scoreless sixth while Lindow pitched a scoreless seventh for the save. Those four combined to walk eight and strike out eight.

The Tigers used an 11-run third inning to build a 22-0 lead in the first game against PR-B.

Nevis finished with 12 hits with Tyler Lindow (2 for 2, three runs, two RBI), Dan Aman (2 for 3, two runs, four RBI), Shep Davis (1 for 4, three runs, two RBI), Aiden Thompson (2 for 3, one run, two RBI), Derek Lindow (1 for 2, three runs, two RBI) and Dan Mistic (2 for 4, three runs, three RBI) leading the offense. Ward Davis scored five times while Mitchell and Tommy Gust scored two runs apiece.

Derek Lindow started and earned the victory, allowing one hit and striking out seven over the first three innings. Gust pitched the final two frames, issuing three runs on three hits and four walks with three strikeouts.

Nevis completed the sweep by overcoming PR-B's five-run second inning by scoring three times in each of the first two innings, twice in the third, four times in the fourth and three times in the fifth.

Aman (2 for 3, one run), Derek Lindow (2 for 4, two runs, two RBI) and Ward Davis (1 for 2, one run, three RBI) led the Tigers' eight-hit attack. Mistic scored three runs while Ian Ahrendt, Shep Davis and Mitchell scored two runs each. Tyler Lindow, Shep Davis, Mitchell, Thompson and Mistic also contributed an RBI each.

Shep Davis was the winning pitcher, going 3 ⅔ innings and giving up five runs on two hits and seven walks with seven strikeouts. Ward Davis finished up, allowing one hit.

PR-B, which fell to 0-3 on the season, committed 12 fielding errors in the doubleheader.
