The Park Rapids Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce has received an award for niche marketing.
Chamber President/CEO Butch De La Hunt accepted a Destination Marketing Award on Feb. 6 at the Explore Minnesota Tourism conference in St. Paul.
The conference recognized individuals, organizations and tourism businesses that contributed to the state's $15.3 billion tourism industry during the last year.
The chamber's award was in the category of niche targeting for a campaign highlighting the "shoulder season" for UTVs and ATVs in the Heartland Lakes area.
According to De La Hunt, the campaign ran in the statewide publication, called "Minnesota Off-Road ATVentures," and on social media, with special focus on the Fargo-Moorhead and Grand Forks corridor.
For example, the "off-road triangle" ad promotes the three nearby state forest corridors - the Paul Bunyan, Two Inlets and Huntersville state forests.
The chamber also brought in "great writers" to pen editorials about the corridor, De La Hunt said.
He noted that several area businesses cater largely to the ATV traffic during the late summer and early fall, including Stompin' Ground, the Huntersville Outpost and the Two Inlets Store.
