Sex crime reported at PRAHS
A case of criminal sexual contact was reported Tuesday at the Park Rapids Area High School.
According to Park Rapids Police records, a page went out over the Hubbard County dispatch system at 8:52 a.m. on Jan. 8, stating that high school principal Jeff Johnson had requested law enforcement regarding an incident of criminal sexual contact.
As of Wednesday morning, police personnel reported that their incident report had been forwarded to the Hubbard County Prosecuting Attorney's office. Police Chief Jeff Appel said police could not comment about the incident after that step was taken.
Hubbard County Attorney Jonathan Frieden confirmed that the case is under review, but details will remain confidential until a decision is made whether to file charges. He estimated that this process may take one to two weeks.
Frieden, who was out of the office on Tuesday, said he was unfamiliar with the case as of Wednesday morning and that he did not know whether the suspect is an adult.
If the suspect is an adult, he said, the police report and information about the case will become public record after a decision is made regarding charges. Otherwise, the matter will be sealed. No information identifying the victim will be made public under any circumstances, Frieden said.
