Ghosts and goblins, pirates and princesses can unite for a family-oriented Halloween party Saturday, Oct. 31 at Armory Square.

The Nemeth Art Center, in partnership with the Park Rapids Chamber of Commerce, Park Rapids Downtown Business Association and Park Rapids High School Drama Department, will present a music-filled “Halloween Happening” from 6 p.m. to midnight.

“It’s a great partnership, and in my mind, a celebration of a great event,” said Michael Dagen, director of Nemeth Art Center.

The evening begins with a haunted family dance party – “Everybody Dance Now,” starring world-renowned DJ ESP (a.k.a. Woody McBride). He’s consistently ranked among the top American International DJs.

Booked weekly around the planet, McBride does a pioneering, futuristic dance mix show and is credited with starting the underground techno scene in the Twin Cities.

Producer, promoter, DJ and party planner, McBride says he does everything from the heart. His own record label, Communique, continues to promote the underground sound.

He’ll be joined Saturday by fellow DJ Casey Borchert.

Attendees in costume will be eligible for cash prizes in three categories: youth, family and adult. Awards will be given at 7:45 p.m.

An upbeat, Minneapolis-based band hits the stage at 8 p.m.

Self-described as a “cinematic, indie folk band with an aggressive sound and eclectic instrumentation” “Marah in the Mainsail” will perform until 9 p.m.

Woven throughout the night, high school drama students will provide interactive theater.

Following the band’s performance, the dance party resumes with sets from DJ ESP and Borchert.

Food and drink will be available for purchase from Vallartas Mexican Grill.

Armory Square is located at 203 Park Ave. in Park Rapids. Admission to the “Halloween Happening” is $8 for adults, $5 for youth, $25 for families. Children age 5 and under are free.

The event is made possible through a grant from the Region 2 Arts Council, thanks to Legacy Funds.
