Young girl killed, driver injured in Bemidji area rollover

A one-vehicle rollover this morning near Bemidji killed a young girl and injured the driver, according to a release from the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office.

A one-vehicle rollover this morning near Bemidji killed a young girl and injured the driver, according to a release from the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office.

About 8:15 a.m., the Sheriff's Office responded to the scene of the accident in Northern Township. The crash occurred on Irvine Avenue near Fern Street, about one mile north of Bemidji.

According to the release, a Mitsubishi Montero SUV was southbound on Irvine Avenue when the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, causing it to cross the northbound lanes and drive off the roadway, striking a driveway approach.

The vehicle traveled for a distance through the air and flipped onto its top upon impact with the ground, coming to rest in a pasture.

The driver suffered unspecified injuries and a female child died from injuries suffered in the crash, the release said. The identities of the two are being withheld until families are notified.

An investigation continues into the crash. The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office requests that anyone who witnessed the crash call (218) 333-9111.
