An Akeley woman escaped injury Monday when her vehicle slid across County Road 36, struck a culvert and overturned in the Kabekona River.
Melissa Mae Wells, 21, lost control of her 1994 GMC SUV on icy roads, the Hubbard County Sheriff's Department said.
She was able to call for help and extricate herself from the water, where a passerby assisted her until emergency personnel arrived.
Authorities said the accident was caused by excessive speed for the conditions and unsafe tires.
Wells was cited after the accident, which occurred just before 10 a.m.
