Woman rescued after falling through ice on the St. Louis River

Cloquet police and the Cloquet area fire department rescued a woman who had fallen through the ice on the St. Louis River while trying to rescue her dogs on Sunday afternoon.

Cloquet police and the Cloquet area fire department rescued a woman who had fallen through the ice on the St. Louis River while trying to rescue her dogs on Sunday afternoon.

The woman was walking with her mother and two dogs when the animals chased geese onto the ice and fell into open water. She was located about 20 yards from shore in water that was about waist high.

A fire department member was able to rescue one of the dogs, according to a news release. The other dog went under the ice and wasn't seen again. The woman was transported to Cloquet Memorial Hospital and was released.
