Duluth police are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found this morning on the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad tracks near the New Page Paper Mill.
The woman's identity hasn't been confirmed but police say they believe she is a 48-year-old Duluth woman. She was hit by a train.
Deputy Police Chief Robin Roeser said the woman's body was found in a remote location along the tracks near the water.
"We think we know the person's name and are trying to confirm that and do some next of kin notification before we say who she is," Roeser said. "We should be able to do that tomorrow."
Roeser said the woman could have been hit by a train and personnel on the train weren't aware that she had been struck.

"There's nothing to indicate anything suspicious," Roeser said.
Roeser said a woman had been seen walking in the area Sunday night. Police received a report of the body being found at 8:47 a.m. today.
Roeser said there was no evidence that the woman was under the influence, but any information in that regard wouldn't be known until tests had been conducted by the medical examiner.
